An Art Song Excursion |

Full CD Details (PDF) » | Buy CD » My goals and objectives, as I began work on An Art Song Excursion, were numerous. The ultimate goal, of course, was to produce a compact disc of art songs, which would be highly regarded by those who chose to listen to it. In addition, I wished to do in-depth research on art songs in several languages; including German, French, Russian, and an Argentine dialect of Spanish, in order to provide insightful information in detailed liner notes. I wished to demonstrate, in a recorded format, my own vocal technique so that my voice students could hear that I “practice what I preach.” I hoped to be able to demonstrate an appropriate and artistic interpretation of each of the twenty-three art songs I chose to record, and to create a body of vocal work that listeners would find enjoyable. Throughout this process, I worked to refine and develop my own vocal technique, interpretive abilities, and language skills, and to develop more fully as a professional musician and educator. An Art Song Excursion, a 56-minute compact disc including the songs of Schumann, Saint-Saëns, Poulenc, Ginastera, and Rachmaninoff, was professionally recorded, copyrighted, and presented to the public during a fall term sabbatical. I have received very positive critical remarks from Peter VanDeGraaff of WFMT, Chicago’s Classical music station, and am pleased to have sold out the first order within weeks of its printing. |
